Report on Educational Visit to Shilpgram Art & Craft Cotton and Silk Expo

The Department of Fashion Design organized an educational visit to the Shilpgram Art & Craft Cotton and Silk Expo at Jawahar Kala Kendra (JKK), Jaipur with the objective of providing students firsthand exposure to India’s diverse textile and handicraft traditions.
During the visit, students interacted with skilled artisans and exhibitors representing various states. The exhibition showcased an impressive collection of traditional textiles including Chanderi, Maheshwari, Tussar, Khadi and Jamdani fabrics. Additionally, students explored a wide range of home textile products such as rugs, carpets, cushions and decorative items, along with brass craft items and regional paintings notably the intricate Pattachitra art.
Students were encouraged to communicate with the exhibitors, document their observations through photographs and collect samples and sourcing details for academic purposes. The visit served as a valuable learning experience, enriching their understanding of indigenous crafts, textile applications and the cultural context of traditional Indian design.
